Copperhead

We have 4 poisonous snakes in Missouri and this is one of them. We haven't seen any at our house yet but we have seen Copperheads along the road. As much as there is good reason for caution, I do enjoy them and think they are beautiful as does the rest of my family. I took this photo while Drew had the snake on one of his snake sticks. People kill many Northern Water snakes each year believing them to be Copperheads. We take every opportunity we can to educate people on their differences and how to properly identify them.

Was this copperhead in your yard? We just have grass snakes here.

No, it wasn't in our yard. The previous owner said he killed 20 copperheads in one year, but praise the Lord, we have not seen any in our yard. From our experience and according to what we have read, they are usually very reluctant to strike...but with children around...I am happy we have not seen any here. Always on the look out though.

When we lived in Idaho the only snakes we ever saw were different varieties of garter snakes. We were always hoping to see a bull snake though.

I'm quite the snake wimp right now, I'm hoping I can grow out of it.
