One day we were all walking around the flower gardens seeing what interesting things we could find. The butterfly weed was in full bloom and especially pretty so we had a closer look.
Although this photo doesn't show it, there were MANY monarch caterpillars crawling all over it...munching away on the leaves.
For several days, we watched them grow. It is amazing how fast they grow! One day, we saw this: Then, a few days later...
Can you see its wings?! Wow. I thought this was incredible. I thanked God for showing us something so beautiful that we could share with the boys.
Then...the finale!!

Loved the butterfly story pictures. Thanks for sharing them.
I love your pictures. I wish I could experience that transformation sometime. Thanks for sharing
That is nature study at its best.
You're welcome - it was great. What I forgot to mention is that there were quite a few of these chrysalis's developing that we were able to observe. Only one did not finish the process.
I only wish we had taken time to draw or paint what we saw.
I hve enjoyed reading your blog; My children are now grown but I homeschooled them for many many years. My oldest is now a teacher himself - he teaches college in NY State. My daughter works at a daycare And another child is a massage therapist.
I am proud of the Lord in you.
Blessings in abundance

Guess what! I saw a butterfly exhibit at our state fair, and along one window were strings of cacoons and other chrysali attached. And there, before my eyes were a couple insects emerging and stretching out its wings. So cool!!!
