This is a male five-lined skink. The boys catch these quite often. The juveniles have the most beautiful, irridescent blue-purple tail. As the males mature their heads turn a rusty orange. I love the grubby little fingers in this photo. :)

My daughter put a very similar little creature in my face this morning. A green anolis(?), I think she called it. She loves them to death. She comes by it naturally--in college, I kept a salamander in a tank for a while. He liked vegeburger!

Oh, I wish we had those here! Our boys have caught them in NC and they are so neat. The boys have a friend that just traveled to TX and he told them all about the green lizards with the pink throat. :)

I love to hear about little girls (and Mamas too) who enjoy those kinds of things in nature.
